This time I got a version of Crafty that would play chess, though it wouldn't successfully build an opening book from the pgn files I'd downloaded (the Crafty games, not the full version), though it would use the supplied opening book in executable form. I then string edited "sys/time" to "time" throughout the source files and tried again. This gave an error complaining that "sys/times.h" couldn't be included. (I'm running on a Windows 2000 system.) After installation I opened the command line and tried "nmake /f Makefile.xp". Provided with the source is a member Makefile.xp for use with nmake. This is almost entirely in C, with one C++ file.
